In neutral to alkaline soils this old Japanese cultivar produces flowers of a rich, warm pink, hence its Western name. In acid conditions it is one of the prettiest blues. Rounded flower heads are neatly composed of four-petaled florets with heart-shaped petals. Long-blooming, an excellent repeater, and one of the best to dry when grown in acid soils, flowers aging green tinted blue. We have found this more often in old gardens than any other cultivar except for Sir Joseph Banks. This old mophead is still among the best. Veitch, 1899. |
